Excuses Bar and Grill
Pittsburgh, PA
Our second time at Excuses, our second false start. The line-up was Bonfire Night (medieval metal music) and us. The Pens were in the playoffs and no band was to set up until the game had concluded. While waiting we did get to spend some quality time with Chuck of BN and a fellow CAPA-ite Mark Howard, who was there to review the show. CAPA (The Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts) was where I went to high school, and it was nice to reminisce about how art school is what kept us sane through what are decidedly un-fun years in almost everyone’s lives, and discuss gear, etc. all while hanging outside the venue with our stuff sitting on the sidewalk.
Once the Pens pulled through to win that round, the bar cleared out, but we ended up playing an incredibly tight set for the stragglers lucky enough to see it. It was also our friend (and BN back-up singer/ rockin’ front woman on own time) Katie’s birthday come midnight. She was nice enough to bring cupcakes and other goodies to celebrate with, which we happily took part in. BN played a short set after us and then we called it an evening, $10 made but a nicely orchestrated set list created, so you win some, you lose some. We will post the review once we catch wind of it.
