Southgate House

Newport, KY (as experienced by Bengt):

Tommy Gun Birthsite
Wally, You Motherfucker
You can’t stop our rock

(as experienced by Maura)

As Bengt has already written our haiku, i’ve decided to utilize a new writing form (equally short in nature):

Next
Excursion
Wally,
Peter-
Out,
Risk
Termination

or, in happier tones:

Nice
Evening
With
Persons
Outstanding
Rocking ( /Reggae-ing/Rejoicing)
Tenaciously

Translation: We had a lot of fun during our first visit to Newport/Cincinnati and got to play with two very fun and very different groups. It was an eclectic evening, and one filled with electronic malfunctions, including a dying synth for the Flux Capacitors and Wally’s first case of stage fright for us. We had to deviate from the set-list and figure out some space fillers off the cuff (voting on which cover song you want to hear more, anyone?) but on the whole it was still a great set and the crowd seemed to really dig it. Plus, afterwords we got to decompress while watching the really tight musician/showmanship of Duppy A Jamba. In short, 2010 has started out right.

Set list (roughly):

Hey (Pixies)
Seed
Remain
Desert Dogs
Tonight
Violet
Dark Surf
Way I Feel Inside (the Zombies)

Also, much thanks to Brian from The Seedy Seeds for having us meet his kids (his two lovely dogs) and letting us sleep as long as we needed at his house.

love, maura
