A New Type of Post for the Live Blog!

So I know there has been a long period of radio-silence on the live blog, and I don’t mean to leave you hanging, so I have decided to fill in the blanks that lie between our performances with posts related to a cause near and dear to AC’s heart: our (and other) local, independent music scene. And how might I do that you ask? Well, to start, I thought I would highlight different local music blogs we’ve come to know and enjoy. In this first installment I would like to call to your attention Burgh Sounds.
Burgh Sounds is everything I could want in a music blog—i.e. coverage of everything—all in one location. There’s links to outside media galore such as a feed of local artists’ tweets, links to news articles concerning Pittsburgh music, and a constantly updated list of the week’s local shows (with links to both the bands and the venues). But they also compile and create a huge amount of their own content through a multi-category blog, presenting videos, audio, photos, personal notes, and reports on local musicians created after attending live performances (including one on AC which you can find here). It creates a huge stockpile of information where anyone from a regular of the scene to someone curious about her friend’s brother’s band can find what they’re looking for. Plus they even offer publicity in their “accents” category via a barter system—artists can write their own segment about a show or release they have coming up and Burgh Sounds will post it in exchange for something as simple, and as mutually beneficial, as a free audio file for the site or a shout out at a show. Matthew and Art, the sites creators, show how much they love their scene through a visually pleasing, easy to navigate site and entries that are both informative and positive without a trace of insincerity. I highly recommend checking it out and regularly.
Got ideas of other local music amazingness I should check out? Please feel free to send it this way and stay tuned for the next installment on the Live Blog.
love,
maura
